AFRICAN PRODUCT ORIGINS

African fish. Freshness needs evidence.

Africa’s fish supply spans inland waters, marine fisheries and aquaculture. A fresh or chilled fish offer needs a clear species, product form and handling story.

7.1 million tonnesAfrican marine capture production of aquatic animals · 2024

The production and trade picture

FAO reports 7.1 million tonnes from African marine capture fisheries in 2024, alongside 3.7 million tonnes from inland fisheries and over 2.4 million tonnes from aquaculture. These are distinct categories, not fresh-fish export volumes.

For fresh or chilled fish, buyers should be able to understand when the fish was caught or harvested, where it was processed, how temperature was monitored and the proposed delivery timing. Fresh, chilled and frozen product forms should be stated accurately.
